Never in my life could I have ever imagined we would
go horseback riding in the Great Smoky Mountains. Words just can't
describe what we saw there! It is amazing all the places we've trail rode
this year, nothing can ever compare to this. Our journey began as a trip
to Myrtle Beach for the "Ride A Thon" for the American Heart Association
November 6-9th. We had plans, reservations and a deposit made.
Unfortunately we weren't able to make it and had to come home! BUT -Here's a little about our ride in the
sky.......
We stayed near Townsend, Tennessee in a
small reclusive Horse Retreat with all the fixin's! What a warm welcome we
had, wonderful cabins and a great view of the mountains. The best part,
they cleaned the stalls!!!! This place was great! We'll be going
back there! It's not a matter of IF, but only a matter of WHEN!
On the first night, our hostess said
there was no way to ride to the top of the mountain that lay directly behind our
cabin in one day. It was to long of a ride, not enough day light. HHMMM, guess she's never rode with us!!! Well we made it! We rode 28
miles in the mountains in 10 hours. We left at sunrise and barely made it
back before dark. Luckily we ride all the time, and our horses are in
great shape! No one could believe we rode that long on Quarter Horses!
It was amazing! I have been to
some great places to trail ride, never anywhere quite like here. We all had to
agree, this was the trail ride of a life time. The pictures don't even
capture the beauty. The untouched land is amazing. The trails are
very well maintained and marked, they do a great job! We went in thru
School House Gap and rode to Cades Cove and up Rich Mountain. Our thoughts
were with our "Trail Buddies" all day, we wished you guys were there with us.
We can't wait to go back with everyone, you all will love it! Already
planning another trip!
